French Montana’s Response to Drake ‘Dissing’ Rappers on Their Collabs

French Montana and Drake have  a long and illustrious working relationship, but the Coke Boys founder is reluctant to concede that the 6 God looks to lyrically decimate foes on French’s songs.

“You know how many n***as Drake done dissed on your songs?” Akademiks said on his Off the Record podcast.

“Honestly, on everything I love, it’s just beef, and he is a competitor and they be dissing him too. He diss Kanye on Travis song too,” French said, referencing “Sicko Mode.”

Ak was mostly talking about “No Shopping,” which Drake used to fan the flames of his feud with Ak’s former Everyday Struggle co-host Joe Budden. He asked if French would ever be comfortable asking Drizzy to switch up his lyrics so a beef wouldn’t overshadow the track.

“Nah man, I come from the coke wave,” French said. “Drake is the person that came up watching Cocaine City DVDs. … Drake been watching French Montana since I came up. Drake is the person that’s like, ‘I’m doing a song with French? We going Cocaine City style.’”

He continued, “‘No Shopping?’ [Drake] had that done. He came to me with the song done. Like we didn’t sit there. I bumped into him in the mall and was like, ‘Yo, come to the studio tonight.’ I went to the studio that night, him and Chubbs came and he gave me two records and ‘No Shopping’ was one of ’em…the other song was the Khaled song [‘For Free’]…he gave me that song that night. I call Khaled, I’m like, ‘Yo Drake just gave me this joint.’”

Elsewhere in the interview, French brushed off a few years-old rumors, including J. Cole and Diddy fighting at a nightclub in 2013, and Drake and Diddy getting into a scuffle at DJ Khaled’s birthday party in 2014.

“I don’t think none of that ever happened,” French said of Drizzy’s alleged fight with the Bad Boys founder. “Nah, I don’t think so. I think it was probably over a song or something, but I never really got into it. ’Cause you know they’re both like my best friends.”

Montana continued, “People be expecting me to pick a side, right? And I lose a lot of friends like that. So if I’m cool with you and I’m cool with him and y’all beef, then I’ll still say what’s up to both of y’all cause I met both of y’all at the same time. How am I wrong for that?”

Budden lashed out at Drake on podcast episodes and response tracks including “Afraid,” and French tried to defuse the situation in an interview. “I don’t think we did that record thinking about Joe Budden,” Montana said in 2016. “It’s not that, I don’t think—I know that for a fact. … I don’t think we was in there thinking about anybody. I don’t think we ever went in the studio with negative energy, talking about somebody. We just work and have fun.”
