The Mega Millions jackpot for Tuesday’s lottery drawing has increased to an estimated $555 million, with a cash option valued at $316.9 million.
The winning numbers were: 2, 31, 32, 37 and 70. The Mega Ball drawn was 25 with a Megaplier of 3X.
The jackpot is also potentially the fifth biggest Mega Millions jackpot and 16th largest in U.S. lottery history.
Although no one across the country hit Friday’s $480 million jackpot, a second-prize ticket matching five numbers but not the Mega Ball was sold in California.
It’s worth $973,668 instead of the standard $1 million as California lottery prizes vary depending on ticket sales and number of winners. They differ from the fixed second prizes offered in other participating states.
In New Jersey, a third-prize, $10,000 ticket was sold at Wawa on Greentree Road in the Sewell section of Mantua, lottery officials said. It matched four numbers plus the Mega Ball.
Friday’s winning numbers were 8, 20, 26, 53 and 64. The Mega Ball drawn was 15 with a Megaplier of 5X.
No one has hit the Mega Millions jackpot since someone in Tennessee won a $20 million prize on April 15. Since then 26 drawings have been held without a grand prize winner.
The odds of a $2 ticket matching all the winning numbers are 302,575,350 to 1. Players have a 1 in 12,607,306 chance of a ticket matching five numbers but not the Mega Ball and winning at least $1 million.
Mega Millions drawings are held on Tuesday and Friday in 45 states, along with Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
New Jersey Lottery offices in Lawrence are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. if players prefer to drop off claims and validate winning tickets in person. Claims can be left in a secure drop box at lottery headquarters. That option applies to prizes worth more than $599.50.
If a player wins a prize of $25,000 or more (or would otherwise prefer to submit a claim in person) appointments can be made to meet with a lottery representative in person by calling 1-800-222-0996.
Prizes valued at $599.50 or less should be claimed at lottery retailers.
