‘DC League of Super-Pets’ Review: Absolutely Paw-ful

Warner Bros. Discovery supposedly owns DC Entertainment, but these days you can be forgiven if you thought it was the other way around. I suppose we’ll get the definitive answer to which brand is boss when there’s a remake of “Bonnie and Clyde” starring finger puppets representing the Joker and Harley Quinn, or a sequel to “Casablanca” with Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot.

While we await those grim developments, the latest misadventure in corporate brand extension, “DC League of Super-Pets,” has arrived. It’s a dim reworking of “The Secret Life of Pets,” which was itself a furry knockoff of “Toy Story.” What if Superman’s dog leapt aboard his escape pod before he left for Earth? What if a lot of other pets picked up superpowers? More to the point, what if you filled an entire movie with silly characters issuing dumb puns worthy of Mr. Freeze in “Batman & Robin”?
