Dejounte Murray trade draws Twitter reaction from Trae Young

The Knicks loss is Trae Young’s gain.

“This 💩 just got real,” the Hawks star tweeted Wednesday, after multiple reports stated Atlanta acquired Dejounte Murray from the Spurs for three first-round picks and Danilo Gallinari.

“Let’s get busy my Brotha @DejounteMurray,” Young also wrote, adding a photo of him standing with Murray at the 2022 All-Star Game in Cleveland.

Murray confirmed the move in a goodbye tweet to San Antonio on Wednesday, in which he thanked Spurs fans for embracing him since the team selected him with the 29th overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft.

“SAN ANTONIO I LOVE YOU FOREVER….. Thank You @spurs And The Whole City For Believing In Me And Embracing Me From DAY ONE,” Murray wrote. “I Want To Write A Whole Book But It’s Not Easy. We Are Family And Its Always Going To Be Bigger Than Basketball!!!”

As the Murray sweepstakes picked up speed after the 2022 NBA Draft last Thursday, the Knicks had interest in the 25-year-old guard. It’s unclear as to what exactly New York was willing to give up, though the team has 11 first-round picks over the next seven years.

Murray will now team up with Madison Square Garden villain Young for what is poised to be a dominant pairing. Murray, who earned his first All-Star nod last season, is a dynamic defender and ball-handler who can help create space for Young, who’s been an elite scorer for Atlanta.

Murray averaged 21.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 9.2 assists per game last season. His current four-year deal $64 million deal is set to expire in 2024, when he will come and unrestricted free agent.
