Mac Miller Fans Celebrate 2011 Mixtape’s Streaming Release

Mac Miller fans were treated to the late rapper’s 2011 mixtape project, I Love Life, Thank You, being released for the first time to all major streaming platforms at midnight on Friday, and the positive reaction was immediately apparent on social media.

“Another Mac Miller mixtape released on streaming platforms and I’m crying because his music is a beautiful gift,” read one Twitter post representative of the response.

Miller died from an accidental drug overdose in 2018 at the age of 26. Before his premature death, he enjoyed commercial success with a career that kicked off with 2007’s But My Mackin’ Ain’t Easy, a mixtape that dropped when Miller was 15.

The 13-track I Love Life, Thank You was made by Miller as part of a campaign to reach one million Twitter followers. After he reached that goal, Miller released the mixtape as a gift to fans in October of 2011. Before the end of that year, his proper debut studio album, Blue Slide Park, came out. Four additional studio albums followed during his lifetime, while the posthumous Circles was released posthumously in January of 2020.

On Friday, though, most of Miller’s fans on Twitter were only talking about I Love Life, Thank You.

“I forgot how good the I Love Life, Thank You Mac Miller mixtape was,” read one enthusiastic post.

“I never thought I’d be listening to [I Love Life, Thank You] on Spotify 🥲my heart is extremely happy. I love you @MacMiller,” one fan wrote.

“FINALLY HEARING LOVE LOST BY MAC MILLER ON APPLE MUSIC AND NOT ON SOUNDCLOUD OR YOUTUBE,” another said.

One fan recounted the mixtape’s release tied to Miller’s “Road 2 a Million Fans” Twitter campaign.

“I discovered #MacMiller back in 2010 and joined twitter for the sole purpose of following his career and legit remember when he dropped #ILoveLifeThankYou like it was yesterday. Another classic finally on streaming! Thank you@MacMiller a true legend,” the post said.

One person said he’d found a new appreciation for the release upon hearing it again.

“Not sure why I glossed over @MacMiller I Love Life, Thank You mixtape back in the day….damn solid project,” the Twitter user wrote on Friday.

I Love Life, Thank You features collaborations from Sir Michael Rocks, Talib Kweli, The Come Up and Bun B. As part of the promotional work behind the release, his former label—Rostrum Records—began a 12-hour Reddit Talk on the r/hiphopheads subreddit at 11:00 a.m. EST that will reportedly include new videos and giveaways.
