No injuries after transformer explodes at Hoover Dam. | News

LAS VEGAS — On the morning of Tuesday, July 19, a transformer at the Hoover Dam caught fire, causing an explosion and smoke. 

According to the Boulder City Fire Department, the fires were put out by the time their crews arrived. The fire was extinguished by a Bureau of Reclamation fire brigade.

According to Jacklynn L. Gould, the Bureau of Reclamation Regional Director, the transformer caught fire around 10 a.m. and was extinguished by 10:30 a.m.

There were no injuries to employees or visitors, according to Gould, and there was no risk to the power grid, as power was still being generated from the powerhouse.
