RB Leipzig defender Nordi Mukiele is to undergo a medical at Paris Saint-Germain despite late interest from Chelsea, The Athletic understands.
The 24-year-old right-back, who can also play centre-back, would become PSG’s fourth signing of the summer, after Hugo Ekitike, Nuno Mendes, and Vitinha.
He will compete with Achraf Hakimi for the right-back berth in Christophe Galtier’s squad.
Chelsea were interested in the France international, but it is thought that the PSG deal was already into its final stages.
Thomas Tuchel’s side remain interested in Sevilla defender Jules Kounde. They have already signed centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli, having lost Andreas Christiansen and Antonio Rudiger to Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.
Mukiele made 37 appearances for Leipzig last season, scoring two goals and managing five assists, and helping the German side to fourth in the Bundesliga.
Speaking after Chelsea’s pre-season loss to Arsenal, Tuchel said he had made “an urgent appeal for quality players”, and warned they were not ready for the start of the season.
