Ons Jabeur insists she is keeping a positive spirit after missing out on a chance to win WImbledon as she believes the best is yet to come. Jabeur, 27, reached her maiden Grand Slam final at Wimbledon, in which she was beaten by 23-year-old Elena Rybakina.
Third-seeded Jabeur made a positive start to the final but Rybakina stormed back to win 3-6 6-2 6-2. Even though Jabeur didn’t accomplish her goal of winning a Grand Slam at this year’s Wimbledon, she is now the second-ranked player in the world and is known as a Grand Slam finalist.
Jabeur has made a stunning progress over the last 12 months and she is now considered among top favorites wherever she goes.
Jabeur: I’ll remain positive
“I’m definitely positive about [holding the runners-up shield],” Jabeur said, per Eurosport.
“I’m very glad with my results. I don’t regret anything. I gave it all today. A final, I lose so many at the beginning, then step back and win one more. I don’t disbelieve in myself and I know that I’m going to come back and win a Grand Slam, for sure.
This is tennis, and it’s part of it. I have to learn from it, definitely. But I’m very, very positive about it. I really cannot wait to play my next tournament, especially since I’m going to the States, and I know there are a lot of crazy fans there.
This is just the beginning of so many things. I’m very positive about it. I really wanted that title. Maybe because I wanted it too much, I didn’t have it. Just the beginning of great things for me. I’m really trying to stay positive, to really continue, to get the more titles that I want.”
Jabeur will now take some time to rest and then prepare for the North American hard court swing. Jabeur will certainly be hoping to do well in the United States and will try to lift her maiden Grand Slam title at the US Open.
