Padres Teammate Shared A Positive Manny Machado Update

Sunday’s game between the San Diego Padres and the Colorado Rockies had a scary scene.

While Padres star Manny Machado tried to beat a dribbler in the first innings, he injured his ankle and had to leave the game.

He was in obvious pain and had to be helped off the field.

After the game, Machado was diagnosed with a left ankle sprain.

X-rays were performed on his left ankle, and fortunately, they came back negative for any fractures.

That doesn’t mean he is out of the woods yet: X-rays don’t always rule out microfractures and other injuries.

In any case, Machado is looking at a multi-week absence, because it wasn’t a mild sprain.

Eric Hosmer Thinks He Could Be Back Soon

One of his teammates, however, painted an optimistic picture about his injury.

“Eric Hosmer said Manny Machado seemed pretty happy with the results of his initial ankle exam. ‘Just kind of talking to him and hearing the news from all the trainers and stuff, I think it’s a win, if that makes any sense,’” Dennis Lin of The Athletic reported after quoting Hosmer.

Machado’s season doesn’t have to be derailed by this injury: after hearing Hosmer and knowing the result of the first X-rays taken, he could be back in two or three weeks.

That isn’t nearly the disaster some Padres fans pictured in their heads after seeing Machado leave yesterday’s game.

He has been carrying the team all year long, with a rock-solid .328/.400/.545 line, 12 round-trippers, 48 runs, 46 RBI, and seven stolen bases, with his customary top defense in the hot corner.

Hopefully for the Padres’ playoff chances, Machado can make his return soon and doesn’t miss a beat.
