The Philadelphia 76ers made a draft-night trade many expected on Thursday when they sent the No. 23 pick and Danny Green to the Memphis Grizzlies to acquire De’Anthony Melton. The Sixers needed a legitimate contributor on both ends of the court and that is exactly what Melton can bring to the table.
Melton can knock down a 3-ball on one end and bother the hell out of his opponents on the other. He averaged 10.8 points and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 37.4% from deep as a big piece off the Grizzlies’ bench last season. He is expected to fill the same role in Philadelphia.
As for Green, his $10 million salary for the 2022-23 season has been guaranteed in this deal. It is a good move for him. He tore his ACL in the Sixers’ season-ending loss to the Miami Heat and is expected to miss most if not all of next season. He is a well-respected veteran who deserves his money at this stage of his career.
