Stranger Things season 4 volume 2 might have only just arrived on Netflix on July 1, but fans are already eager to know when the next batch of episodes will be coming.
It’s a common question fans ask after a new season has arrived, especially after a show ends with such a massive cliffhanger like the one we saw at the end of season 4. After all, it’s only natural to want to know how long you might have to wait before finally getting resolution to storylines and answers to burning questions.
The good news is that Stranger Things season 5 is coming, the bad news is that season 5 won’t be arriving on Netflix in 2022.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise as filming on season 5 has not yet even begun, but if there were any questions about the new season arriving sometime before the end of the year we’re here to put those to bed. It’s also not like Netflix to drop two seasons of a major scripted series in the same calendar year.
Will Stranger Things season 5 be the final season of Stranger Things?
Stranger Things season 5 will indeed be the final season of Stranger Things. Netflix has made it clear the show will end with its upcoming fifth season, meaning there will be five seasons total of Stranger Things.
While we’ve learned to never say never with Netflix after it handed out a bonus season to Lucifer after previously billing its fifth season as its final season, the Duffer brothers have long stated their plans for Stranger Things to run for four to five seasons. The good news is the Duffers are planning at least one spinoff already which will allow the show to live on in some manner beyond season 5.
When will season 5 of stranger things be released?
At this time, Netflix has not announced an exact release date for Stranger Things season 5; however, it’s likely the earliest we’d season the season arrive would be sometime in 2024.
While the Duffer brothers have assured fans they won’t have to wait as long between seasons 4 and 5, we’ve come to expect at least a year and a half to two years on minimum between seasons of Stranger Things. As such, it’s looking likely that season 5 will arrive sometime in the summer of 2024 which would put us about two years out from season 4’s release.
Of course, we’d love to see the season arrive sooner and there is always a chance Netflix could try to get the season out by late 2023. We just don’t see that happening given how massive the series has become and the work that goes into creating new episodes.
